Recently researcha and footwear technology has been steering runners towards Forefoot striking. I have encountered many athletes in my clinic with overuse tendonitis of muscles within the deep compartment of the calf due to this increased demands placed on these muscles to stabilize the foot in this elevated position.
I was very interested to come across this recent article which suggests foot contact will vary throughout the core of the run dependent on fatigue and terrain. As the author states, this is advantageous as the workload is hsared amongst many muscle groups.
